Winter and Spring ‘22 Semesters at Mission College
NVMI has about 125 cadets from grades 9 through 12 taking college classes on the Mission College campus during the fall semester, 2022. Classes range from Biology to Chicano Literature, and we are so proud of every student who is going above and beyond to take on these rigorous courses! Winter session 2023 will be coming up before you know it, so if you are a student in grades 9 through 12, or a middle schooler who will be at least 13 years old by January 3, 2023, come see Ms. Burchards or Mr. Garcia about getting signed up.
More information about what classes will be available for winter, and when the registrations are due, will be coming as soon as we get these firmed up.
For those cadets interested in being part of the Early College Program, please sign up as soon as you can.
We want to register cadets now and avoid the last-minute rush to take classes this summer. If you are passing all of your high school classes, and enjoy learning, this program is for you!
FREE college classes, which gives you both high school credit and college credits at the same time!
Mission College is doing all of the registering for college, and signing up for classes, online now, so see Ms. Burchards or Mr. Garcia for help with these processes.
The College and Career Center is located in room 51. We are at the college in the morning but should be in that room by 2:15 every day.
WE WOULD LOVE TO HAVE YOU!

Students enroll in classes that count for BOTH high school graduation and college graduation. In other words, a single course gives them DOUBLE credit. Our goal is to enable cadets to earn their high school diploma and an AA degree from Los Angeles Mission College, at the same time!
All courses and textbooks are FREE. There is no cost to students.
NVMI has identified 6 college pathways:
4) Service (Police/Fire/Law/Military)
NVMI Early College Program offers the gamut of available “general education” courses, including English, math, US and world history, political science, speech communications, earth science, physical science, biological science, art, music, theater, Chicano studies, philosophy, sociology, psychology, and more. Classes are offered during the school day in place of regular NVMI class periods.
Students generally enroll in two classes per session. There are four – fall, winter, spring and summer. For fall and spring sessions, students are assigned classes that will help them to gain their AA degree.
All courses in English and math require a teacher recommendation for placement. Student recommendations which indicate a need for pre-collegiate English or math are offered those courses through the LA Mission College program at NVMI. Those courses include Math 110 or Math 115 (Elementary and Intermediate Algebra) prior to enrollment in College Algebra. Some courses do not require any prerequisites; others require successful completion of courses like English 101 or College Algebra.
The Early College Program is being offered for grades 9, 10, 11, and 12. Any student at those levels can participate as long as parents, the school administration, and the student believe the student can be successful in a rigorous college level course that requires college level reading and writing skills.
Younger students are allowed to enroll independently if they are over the age of 13, and get the proper forms filled out. Parents would be responsible for taking a student to Mission College for these classes.
“I am graduating in May 2018 from NVMI and will be done with an AA degree by December 2018. This would never have happened had I not attended NVMI and participated in this program.”
—Rosie Pacheco, NVMI Class of 2018
“Though rigorous, I feel like these classes have given me the chance to experience college while still in high school and get a better sense of what I want to study in full time college.
—Anthony Yahuaca, NVMI Class of 2018
“These college professors are no joke. They expect a lot from us, but I’m so glad my family and I were able to save thousands of dollars by taking these classes while I was still in high school.
—Jordan Guillen, NVMI Class of 2019
