MAY IS BIKE MONTH CHALLENGE
MAY IS BIKE MONTH CHARTER SCHOOL CHALLENGE
CONGRATULATIONS to all who participated in the NVMI May is Bike Month Challenge. We honor the following for their achievements by level. Individual certificates were emailed on 3 JUN 20 to each participant. We are very proud of everyone who participated and encourage you to continue to stay fit and be well:
WHAT: The North Valley Military Institute, a charter school in Sun Valley, CA, is challenging all other California Charter Schools to participate in in a bike challenge for the month of May. We challenge each school to bike as many miles as possible during the 31 days of May (either on the road or on stationary bikes). We will have a virtual awards ceremony in early June to recognize schools and individuals with the most logged miles.
WHO: Students, staff, parents, and community members (siblings, other family, friends, and neighbors) of any CA Charter School can participate.
WHEN: The MAY IS BIKE MONTH CHARTER SCHOOL CHALLENGE operates May 1-31, 2020.
WHERE: Biking on the road or stationary bikes can count
WHY: To promote fitness, personal wellness, and self-care by everyone in the broader charter school community
HOW: 1) A school representative must sign up the school using a simple form found here: https://bit.ly/bikechall We ask schools only to provide their school name and city, a point of contact and their email
2) The school will be sent a link to share with their school community for individuals to sign up and associate themselves with their school team. Sign up only includes full name, school, and category of participant: student PK-2, student grades 3-5, student grades 6-8, student grades 9-12, staff member, parent, or other community member. They will receive a participant ID number confirming their registration.
3) Individuals log their daily miles on a special google form to be provided. There is a free app (Strava) you can use to help you figure out the distance you are riding: https://www.strava.com. The form simply asks their participant ID and number of miles ridden for that day.
IF YOU HAVE A PARTICIPANT ID YOU CAN LOG YOUR MILES HERE: https://bit.ly/bikeparticipant
4) The website will include ways schools and individuals can track their miles biked and to see schools and individuals in the leader roles in each category.
5) At the conclusion of the month, virtual awards will be given in each category (1st through 25th places) and for the top schools in each of three divisions – elementary, middle and high (dividing the number of miles biked total by that school by the total number of participants). Each participant who bikes 50 or more miles will be emailed a Bronze Level Certificate of Achievement. There will also be other levels of awards as follows: 150 miles = Silver, 250 miles = Gold, 400+ miles = Platinum.
